Learn About Our Project:

Welcome to The Princess Who Saved Herself, a children's book written by comics writer Greg Pak, based on the beloved song by internet superstar musician Jonathan Coulton, and illustrated by artist Takeshi Miyazawa.

UPDATE 03.26.15: THANK YOU SO MUCH, DEAR BACKERS! You've funded this dream project and hit every wild stretch goal! We're printing the books and super-sized stickers and making all the digital extras! You're amazing and we appreciate it so much! THANK YOU!

UPDATE 03.23.15: Thank you, backers! You've hit three big stretch goals and now all backers get the digital PRINCESS WHO SAVED HERSELF ACTIVITY BOOK and the digital PRINCESS WHO SAVED HERSELF SCRIPT BOOK and backers at the $12 level and higher get the digital SPANISH LANGUAGE VERSION OF THE PRINCESS WHO SAVED HERSELF! Our final stretch goal -- if we hit $100,000, we'll SUPER-SIZE THE STICKERS that backers with physical rewards receive!

UPDATE 03.20.15: Last two stretch goals! If we hit $85,000, we'll create a digital SPANISH LANGUAGE VERSION OF THE PRINCESS WHO SAVED HERSELF that every backer at the $12 level and above will receive as a PDF! And if we hit $100,000, we will SUPER-SIZE THE STICKERS that all backers who picked a physical reward will receive! (Originally we planned a sticker strip about 3x7 inches. We're still talking to vendors, so we don't have exact dimensions yet, but if we hit the stretch, we'll go at least twice that size!)

UPDATE 03.16.15: New stretch goal! If we hit $70,000, every backer will get a digital PRINCESS WHO SAVED HERSELF SCRIPT BOOK that includes outlines and multiple script drafts that we went through while adapting Jonathan’s song into a children’s book, as well as behind-the-scenes concept art, layouts, pencils, inks and colors! Greg will provide written color commentary every step of the way, describing the process and what he learned while writing his first published children’s book. If you’ve ever thought about writing a children’s book yourself or have an interest in the creative process in general, this is for you.

UPDATE 03.12.15: Y'all are amazing! You hit our first target in just six hours yesterday! So here's our first STRETCH GOAL! If we hit $50,000, every backer will get a digital PRINCESS WHO SAVED HERSELF ACTIVITY BOOKThis will be a digitally delivered PDF activity book designed to be printed out at home that features black and white images of the book for kids to color and PWSH-themed activity pages, including mazes, word searches. and drawing and storytelling projects! It’s gonna be a blast and a big, fun thing for the awesome, active kids we made the original book for. So please feel free to spread the word to friends and family so we can get it done!

The Princess Who Saved Herself reinvents the princess myth for a new generation of proactive girls, telling the story of an awesome kid who lives with her pet snake and plays rock 'n' roll all day to the huge annoyance of the classical guitarist witch who lives down the road. Hijinks, conflicts, and a fun reconciliation ensue, all showcasing determination, bravery, and understanding.

The book was created as a stretch goal for Coulton's and Pak's Code Monkey Save World graphic novel Kickstarter (which was also based on Coulton's classic songs) and has already been delivered to CMSW backers in digital form.

The great news? The book's already been written, drawn, colored, and lettered! We're just looking to raise the money to print the thing as a beautiful hardcover and mail it to you!
